The safety inspections of the 3.5 km Civil Court to Swargate underground Metro stretch are nearing completion, with final checks by the Commissioner of Metro Rail Safety (CMRS) expected to be done in the next two days. The stretch is slated for inauguration by the Prime Minister during his visit to Pune on September 26-27. While an official schedule is yet to be confirmed, the PM is also expected to lay the foundation for the Metro’s Swargate to Katraj extension. Metro officials are finalising formalities to obtain the necessary certifications, and the CMRS clearance is expected early next week.
During his visit, PM Modi may take a ride on the Metro between Civil Court and Swargate stations, and he is also likely to address a public gathering in Pune's central area. BJP officials have highlighted the central government's role in fast-tracking the Pune Metro project, with the Prime Minister having previously inaugurated other sections of the route. Additionally, two Metro extensions—Vanaz to Chandni Chowk and Ramwadi to Wagholi—are also expected to receive final approval ahead of the PM’s visit.
