Action Planned to Address Hazardous Slope and Traffic Woes on NIBM-Undri Road, Mohammadwadi
The civic administration is addressing citizens' concerns over the hazardous slope on NIBM-Undri Road near Ishrat Baug in Mohammadwadi. Following an accident where a minibus lost control and caused a fatal collision with other vehicles, the need for action has become evident. The sharp turn preceding the slope and a narrow Y junction at its end compound the risk, particularly for less-experienced drivers. Furthermore, two-wheeler riders often face challenges like skidding and loss of balance on this stretch. Residents have called for not only reducing the incline but also widening the road to accommodate the heavy traffic flow.
Engaging with the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC), the NIBM-Undri Residents Forum conveyed the urgent need for a comprehensive and sustainable solution. The dangers posed by the slope, which are particularly pronounced during monsoon seasons, were highlighted during discussions with PMC's additional commissioner, Dhakane. Assurances have been made regarding a personal assessment of the area, aiming to address the concerns. In a bid to find an effective solution, local representatives and PMC officials are considering replicating successful roadwork strategies previously implemented, like those used on the Cloud9 slope. However, the project's progress awaits land acquisition, after which measures to reduce the incline and widen the road will be taken, according to the head of PMC's road department.
