The construction of an alternative road cutting through the College of Agriculture campus, aimed at alleviating traffic congestion and aiding Metro rail works on Ganeshkhind Road, is nearing completion. According to the deputy commissioner of police (traffic), a 1.2km segment of the road has already been finished, with the remaining 0.80km expected to be finalised in the coming days. This two-lane road, undertaken by PMRDA at a cost of Rs4 crore, includes the installation of tin sheds to prevent unauthorised access to farm fields on one side, while the other side remains closed due to a common wall erected by PMRDA for its Pune rail project-2 at Wakdewadi.
The project faced delays as PMC required significant time to acquire land and transfer its possession to PMRDA for development. PMRDA sought permission from College of Agriculture (CoA) officials to utilise its internal road as an alternate route, initially facing opposition from students. However, the plan was revised to involve the development of a 1100m long gravel road behind CoA's main heritage structure to accommodate public use, facilitating PMRDA's Metro works and mitigating congestion on Ganeshkhind Road.
