Following protests by students of the College of Agriculture (CoA) against the proposed opening of an internal road to the public, authorities announced a revised plan on Friday. Instead of using the main internal road, a 1,100-metre-long 'kaccha' road behind CoA's main heritage structure will be developed and opened for common people within a fortnight. This alternative road, connecting Sinchannagar to the road near Sakhar Sankul, aims to alleviate congestion on Ganeshkhind Road and facilitate PMRDA Metro works. The decision was finalised at a meeting involving the deputy chief minister, Pune's guardian minister, PMRDA, PMC, CoA, Pune police, and other authorities.
Additionally, measures were taken to regulate traffic, including the banning of private luxury buses between Sancheti Hospital and SPPU junction from 8 am to 10.30 pm. The altered plan also involved removing encroachments on a 300-metre stretch at Sai Chowk behind Khadki railway station to facilitate PMRDA's construction work. Despite concerns raised by students about the earlier proposed road disrupting their research work and campus security, the revised plan has been welcomed, with students expressing satisfaction over the alternative road's location and requesting a barricade to prevent unauthorised entry onto the campus.
