Anticipated Traffic Easing Khadki-Harris Bridge Reopening for Two-Way Traffic

09 Apr 2024

The stretch from the Khadki Bazaar area towards Harris bridge is set to reopen for two-way traffic within a week, easing the challenges faced by regular commuters who have been demanding this change. Currently, the road permits only one-way movement, from the bridge to Khadki. Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) officials, after reviewing the traffic situation and progress of Metro works in the area, announced plans to consult with traffic police to facilitate two-way traffic for bikes and cars. They emphasised that heavy vehicles will be allowed later, once the Metro works are completed.

Residents of Khadki have been advocating for the reopening of two-way traffic on this route, which has been restricted for the past three years due to ongoing Metro construction. They argue that the Khadki Bazaar to Harris bridge stretch serves as a vital link, particularly for vehicles travelling from Nagar Road to the old Mumbai-Pune highway road. Additionally, the PMC's road department is considering allowing two-way traffic on the old Mumbai-Pune highway road near Khadki police station to further alleviate traffic congestion in the area, with some stretches already experiencing smooth traffic flow under the new arrangements.
