The Public Investment Board (PIB) has given its approval for the PCMC to Nigdi metro route, signaling progress in expanding the metro network in Pune. This elevated metro route, estimated to cost ₹910 crore, is set to enhance connectivity within the region. However, the Swargate to Katraj metro route, an underground project with a higher estimated cost of ₹3,663 crore, is still under scrutiny by the PIB and awaits further approval. Maha-Metro, the implementing authority, aims to complete several stretches of the metro network by the end of the year, including the Ruby Hall Clinic to Ramwadi stretch, which is expected to be operational in a couple of months. Simultaneously, the Civil Court to Swargate stretch is nearing completion and is anticipated to be fully operational by December, demonstrating the city's commitment to expanding its public transportation infrastructure.
In an encouraging development for Pune's metro expansion plans, the PIB's approval for the PCMC to Nigdi metro route is a significant step forward. However, the Swargate to Katraj metro route is facing a more extended approval process due to its higher estimated cost, with scrutiny by both the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA) and the PIB. Maha-Metro remains dedicated to completing various metro extensions, aiming to make the Ruby Hall Clinic to Ramwadi stretch operational within a few months and expecting the Civil Court to Swargate stretch to be fully operational by the end of the year. These efforts reflect the city's commitment to improving its public transportation infrastructure for the benefit of its residents.
