Pedestrians have faced difficulties crossing the highway at Chandni Chowk since the flyover's inauguration in August 2023, as no foot overbridge (FOB) was provided. This issue is particularly pressing near the bus stop at the Mulshi underpass, where the absence of traffic lights and zebra crossings forces people to jaywalk dangerously. Responding to public demand, the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) has begun constructing a 125 m-long FOB near the Bavdhan bus stop, expected to be completed by the year's end at a cost of Rs6.6 crore.
Local residents and frequent commuters, especially from Mumbai and nearby areas like Bavdhan and Kothrud, have expressed relief as the FOB will significantly improve pedestrian safety. The high-speed traffic on the highway has made it unsafe for travellers and walkers, including senior citizens, to cross. The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) and NHAI have jointly planned this project, and residents have also called for additional measures such as speed breakers and better signage on the surrounding roads.
