Commuters, including Army personnel, face daily hardships due to an unrepaired stretch between the Artificial Limb Centre (ALC) and Military Intelligence Training School & Depot (MITSD) in Pune. The road was dug up over nine months ago by the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) to lay a water pipeline from the Pune Cantonment water station to Wanowrie. The incomplete work has significantly reduced the carriageway, causing severe traffic congestion. According to PMC officials, the delay in repairs is attributed to the monsoon and material shortages, with work expected to resume soon. However, residents and Army officers have criticized both the PMC and the Pune Cantonment Board (PCB) for their failure to ensure timely completion of the project.
The stretch, critical for institutions like ALC, AFMC, and MITSD, as well as Wanowrie-bound traffic accessing the Pune-Solapur highway, has become a bottleneck, particularly during peak hours. The narrowed road and lack of proper streetlights have made commuting challenging and dangerous, especially at night. Despite repeated follow-ups by PCB officials, PMC cites logistical issues for the delay. Residents and Army officials demand urgent action to alleviate the inconvenience and ensure safer travel.
