Commuters Frustrated Over Delays in Vishrantwadi to Airport Road Work

20 Feb 2025

Commuters traveling on the Vishrantwadi to Airport Road stretch are frustrated over incomplete roadwork, causing congestion and safety concerns. While the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has undertaken road concreting and footpath reconstruction, several patches remain barricaded due to pending work. Regular travelers complain that these delays, combined with the ongoing flyover construction at Vishrantwadi Chowk, have led to slow-moving traffic and increased accident risks. They have urged authorities to prioritize infrastructure work on critical routes like the Airport Road and ensure adequate lighting at ongoing construction sites from Vishrantwadi to 509 Chowk.

Local residents have also pointed out that roads near Lohegaon airport are too narrow for increasing traffic and should be widened with cooperation between the civic administration and the defense ministry. PMC officials stated that contractors have been instructed to speed up work and remove barricades where construction is complete. They also warned of potential action against contractors for unnecessary delays. Currently, three main routes lead to the airport via Vishrantwadi-Tingre Nagar, Yerwada-Jail Road, and Ramwadi while PMC is planning additional road links to improve accessibility.
