Construction of Ghorpadi Rail Overbridge Begins, Aiming to Ease Traffic Woes

07 Sep 2024

The much-anticipated construction of a rail overbridge in Ghorpadi has officially begun, bringing relief to commuters who regularly face traffic jams and long waits at the railway crossing. The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) aims to complete the project in 24 months, having secured the necessary land from the railways and defence authorities. Commuters in the area have welcomed the move, though they expressed frustration that the overbridge proposal had been delayed for years. They hope the project will be completed on time to ease traffic congestion on the narrow roads of Ghorpadi.

This is the second rail overbridge in the vicinity, following the opening of a similar bridge in Mundhwa six months ago, which has significantly improved traffic flow. While the PMC coordinates with railway and defence officials to ensure smooth progress, some changes in local traffic patterns have been introduced to facilitate the construction work. The project recently sparked protests from the city Congress unit, which criticised the delays and threatened further action if work had not started within 10 days after the project's groundbreaking ceremony in March.
