Conveyance Deed Delays Affect More Than 10,000 Housing Societies in Pune and Pimpri Chinchwad

30 Oct 2023

In Pune and Pimpri Chinchwad cities, a pressing issue has come to light, affecting over ten thousand housing societies. These societies are currently grappling with the absence of conveyance documents from their respective developers, leaving them in a precarious situation without legal ownership of their land. This predicament could potentially obstruct any redevelopment plans for their properties. To address this critical situation, a legal process known as deemed conveyance has been recommended during a recent seminar organized by relevant authorities. This process was advised as a solution to grant these housing societies ownership of their land, highlighting the importance of the issue at hand.

The gravity of the situation was emphasized during the seminar, with statistics revealing that out of a substantial number of housing societies and apartments in the area, only a small fraction have obtained conveyance deeds from their builders. Others have independently pursued deemed conveyance, while some societies fall under specific housing authorities. For societies with government-owned land, conveyance deeds or deemed conveyance may not be necessary. However, for the remaining housing societies, obtaining a conveyance deed is of utmost importance, as failure to do so could result in a loss of their legal ownership of the land. This situation necessitates urgent attention and action to safeguard the interests of these housing societies.
