Delayed Road Work in NIBM Annexe Sparks Resident Outrage Amid Traffic Woes

20 Jan 2025

Residents of NIBM Annexe are frustrated with the prolonged road construction work between Raheja Circle and SM Ghule Patil Chowk, which has disrupted traffic and made commuting difficult, especially during evenings and weekends. While one stretch of the road remains incomplete after more than four months, construction of another stretch from SM Ghule Patil Chowk to Tribeca High Street Mall has begun, closing one side of the road for over two weeks. Commuters report congestion, safety concerns due to uneven road surfaces, and the lack of footpaths, compounded by weekend traffic surges at Tribeca Mall. Residents have written to the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) and state authorities, seeking clarity on delays attributed to land acquisition issues, despite the road being part of the Development Plan.

A PMC junior engineer overseeing the project has assured that all roadwork will be completed by March, emphasizing that concrete roads take longer to construct but offer durability. However, residents argue that the ongoing construction has caused significant challenges, including dust pollution, traffic jams, and inadequate parking spaces. The rapidly developing Undri-NIBM Annexe area, which has seen significant population growth post-pandemic, already faces issues like poor water supply and inadequate infrastructure. Residents urge the PMC to expedite the work, as these roads are critical for better connectivity to Kondhwa and surrounding areas, promising to alleviate traffic congestion once completed.
