Double-Deck Flyover Proposed on Paud Road to Ease Traffic Congestion

14 Apr 2025

The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) and Maha Metro are jointly exploring the construction of a double-decker flyover along the busy Paud Road stretch between Kothrud garbage depot and Bhusari Colony, to ease the worsening traffic congestion in the area. The proposed structure will have a vehicle flyover beneath a Metro viaduct, part of the planned Vanaz–Chandni Chowk Metro extension. Maha Metro has submitted a detailed proposal to PMC, estimating the project cost at around ₹80 crore. PMC officials are currently reviewing the plan to assess ramp placements, feasibility, and other key technical aspects.

Commuters believe the flyover will help reduce travel time by bypassing four major chowks, but they also urge authorities to ensure proper traffic flow at entry and exit points. Paud Road sees heavy daily traffic from areas like Pirangut, Mulshi, and the Mumbai bypass. Residents also expressed frustration over delays in the Metro extension to Chandni Chowk, which has been pending for four years and is now awaiting final approval from the Centre. Civic authorities stated that once the Metro extension is greenlit, they will finalize the flyover construction timeline in coordination with Maha Metro.
