The Maharashtra government has directed the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) to transfer all documents related to construction activities in the villages of Phursungi and Uruli Devachi, which have recently been excluded from PMC limits and designated as municipal councils. This decision, issued by the Urban Development Department, raises concerns about the future of the Town Planning (TP) schemes in these areas. Following the exclusion, construction permits in these villages were held up with the PMC, prompting the Commissioner to seek clarity from the state government. The government has now clarified that the responsibility for construction-related matters rests with the respective municipal councils, ending the PMC's authority over these villages.
The exclusion of Phursungi and Uruli Devachi from the PMC has left the fate of the Town Planning (TP) schemes uncertain. PMC had been working on a TP scheme spanning 371 hectares in these villages, with its final design nearing completion. The scheme, estimated to cost Rs 700 crore, is now in limbo due to the villages’ exclusion. This transition of authority has created significant uncertainty for pending construction permits and the future development plans of these areas.
