In response to escalating traffic congestion caused by increased vehicle numbers and ongoing development projects like the metro and flyovers in Pune, the Deputy Commissioner of Pune City Traffic Branch has taken proactive measures. Collaborating with experts, surveys were conducted, leading to the implementation of new temporary traffic orders under the guidance of the Pune City Police Commissioner. These orders, effective immediately, restrict heavy, bulky, and slow-speed vehicles from certain sections of key roads during specified hours. For instance, on Pune Nagar Road, the stretch from Wagheshwar Chowk to Wagholi to Kharadi Bypass will prohibit such vehicles from 7:00 am to 10:00 am and 5:00 pm to 9:00 pm.
To address citizen concerns and ensure community participation in traffic management, avenues for feedback have been established. Individuals are encouraged to submit their suggestions or objections in writing to the Deputy Commissioner of Police, Traffic Branch, located at Yerwada Post Office, Bungalow No. 6, Jail Road, Pune 41006. This feedback window remains open until March 5, 2024. Final orders will be issued following a thorough review of the submissions to optimise traffic flow and alleviate congestion effectively.
