The India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a yellow alert for parts of Maharashtra, forecasting rain, thunderstorms, and gusty winds till Friday. A cyclonic circulation over the southwest Bay of Bengal and south Sri Lanka, along with troughs extending to Lakshadweep and from south interior Karnataka to east Vidarbha, is expected to bring such weather conditions. The IMD predicts isolated light to moderate rainfall, accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds (40-60 kmph) over Konkan, Goa, Madhya Maharashtra, and Marathwada till May 17, with Vidarbha likely to experience similar conditions on Thursday. Pune residents can expect light rain, thunderstorms, and lightning on Thursday and Friday, providing some relief from the recent heat.
Several districts are on alert, with Jalgaon and Nasik likely to experience thunderstorms with lightning and gusty winds (40-60 kmph) on Thursday, along with isolated hail. Ahmednagar and Pune are also expected to see thunderstorm activity with gusty winds and isolated rainfall on Thursday, and light rain/thundershowers on Friday. Additionally, Kolhapur and Satara may experience thunderstorms with lightning, gusty winds (40-50 kmph), and light to moderate rainfall on Friday.
