The incomplete dismantling of the BRTS route between Chandan Nagar and Kharadi on the Pune-Ahmednagar Road has caused a significant rise in traffic accidents and congestion, frustrating local residents and commuters. Despite multiple complaints to the Pune traffic police, the problem has persisted for over a month, with only a portion of the Bus Rapid Transit System (BRTS) route being dismantled. Maharashtra Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) secretary has issued an ultimatum to the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC), demanding the immediate removal of the partially dismantled BRTS route, warning that failure to do so by August 15 could result in a hunger strike supported by citizens.
Local residents and activists have repeatedly raised concerns about the hazardous conditions on the road, particularly the unfinished section from Phoenix Mall to Kharadi, which has led to severe traffic bottlenecks and fatal accidents. Despite initial efforts by the civic administration to address the issue, the work remains incomplete, and the road continues to pose a danger to commuters. The Wadgaon Sheri MLA and the additional commissioner of police (north division) have both acknowledged the severity of the situation, with the police identifying several problem areas that require immediate attention to ensure the safety of citizens and smooth traffic flow.
