Construction on the Katraj-Kondhwa Road in Pune is expected to cause continued commuting challenges for approximately eight more months, with completion anticipated in the first quarter of the upcoming year, according to civic officials. The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) is accelerating efforts due to anticipated state government funds amounting to Rs 200 crore for the project.
The road's widening, a crucial link between Katraj and Saswad/Solapur highways, has faced delays due to land acquisition issues and now aims to be 50 meters wide instead of the initially planned 84 meters. The ongoing six-year-long incomplete project has led to traffic congestion and safety concerns, prompting calls for improved public transport options. The PMC has spent Rs 48 crore on the construction so far, and negotiations with landowners continue while around half of the project is reportedly finished.
