Even with the TDR Scheme, the Road Widening Project on Katraj-Kondhwa Road is experiencing delays. The 3.5 KM project, initiated in December 2018, is facing setbacks due to a limited positive response to the Pune Municipal Corporation's (PMC) Transferable Development Right (TDR) Scheme.
Originally scheduled for completion by December 2021, the road widening project from Katraj Chowk to Khadi Machine junction had its width reduced from 84 meters to 50 meters in July 2022. Despite the introduction of the TDR Scheme in September to expedite land acquisition, PMC has acquired only 1.60 lakh square meters of the required 2.88 lakh square meters, leading to both project delays and traffic disruptions.
PMC's objective is to acquire 138 land parcels through the TDR Scheme, with only 30 parcels acquired thus far. A dedicated team has been established to negotiate with landowners, aiming to persuade more contributors to the Road Widening Project. Simultaneously, PMC is streamlining paperwork to hasten the land acquisition process.
PMC now targets the completion of the road widening work by March 2024, utilizing Rs 48 crore from public funds. However, for the original 84-meter road plan, an estimated Rs 360 Crore is needed. The state government's approved Rs 200 crore is sufficient for constructing only a 50-meter road. The resolution of this disparity remains to be seen.
The road in question serves as a vital link between Solapur and Satara Road, accommodating both local traffic and heavy vehicles. However, its current construction has rendered it accident-prone, necessitating a prompt solution.
