A bypass road is in the process of being constructed to alleviate the prevalent traffic congestion at Chandni Chowk and Bhugaon, facilitating smoother vehicular movement between Pune and Raigad. This planned bypass will allow vehicles travelling through Chandni Chowk to bypass Bhugaon Gaothan and seamlessly connect with Bhukum and the Pune-Kolad National Highway. Notably, the Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) has secured consent from an impressive 95% of landowners, a critical step as the construction requires the acquisition of 1.44 hectares of land. The rationale behind this bypass stems from the community's demand in Bhugaon, where road widening isn't feasible for mitigating traffic congestion. The bypass road is designed to span 800 metres in length and 18 metres in width, promising significant relief for traffic congestion issues. With such widespread consent from landowners, the PMRDA envisions an expedited process of land acquisition, which, combined with construction, is anticipated to conclude in under two years. The PMRDA is set to manage land acquisition, while the Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC) will lead the actual construction, partnering with the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI). The local gram panchayat of Bhugaon has strongly advocated for this bypass road, recognizing its potential to alleviate traffic congestion effectively. In return for land provided for bypass construction, landholders are assured compensation in the form of Floor Space Index (FSI) or Transfer of Development Rights (TDR). The endeavour has also garnered political support, as a Member of Parliament (MP) has petitioned the Union Minister of Roads and Highways for the bypass road's construction. This advocacy was extended to social media platforms, particularly Twitter, with the MP highlighting the route from Bhugaon to Ghotavade Phata, which spans Pune and Kolad, underscoring the importance of this bypass in addressing traffic challenges.
