Residents of Lohgaon, Pune, have launched a protest outside the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) building, led by Sunil alias Master Khandve. This protest, which includes a hunger strike, aims to draw attention to the numerous problems the area faces, which residents allege have been ignored by the PMC. Lohgaon, located on the eastern border of PMC jurisdiction and incorporated into the PMC in 2017, has a 23-point list of issues ranging from irregular water and electricity supply to inadequate infrastructure and services. The residents' grievances highlight issues such as pothole-filled roads, drainage problems, insufficient garbage management, and the lack of proper medical and educational facilities.
The protest also emphasizes specific demands for infrastructure development, including the construction and improvement of several key roads, installation of street lights, and enhancement of water supply systems. Traffic problems on major roads, the need for new bypasses, and the connection of water tanks to address water shortages are also on the list of demands. Additionally, the residents call for the swift implementation of the DP Plan for Lohgaon and the other newly included villages. The hunger strike aims to push the PMC to take immediate action on these critical issues to improve the living conditions in Lohgaon.
