MahaRERA has raised concerns by flagging 212 housing projects on its website due to the absence of mandatory quarterly construction status reports, indicating developers' lack of commitment towards project completion. Among districts, Pune leads with 47 defaulting projects, followed by Nashik and Palghar with 23 each, highlighting a widespread issue across Maharashtra. These projects, launched in the first quarter of the previous calendar year, risk affecting homebuyers' investments, prompting MahaRERA to caution the public by publishing district-wise lists on its website.
Developers, mandated to submit quarterly progress reports, have neglected these requirements, prompting MahaRERA to serve notices and suspend project registrations. While these actions aim to alert homebuyers and monitor project progress closely, homebuyers' associations advocate for stricter measures, suggesting that outright cancellation of non-compliant projects would better protect investors' interests.
