MahaRERA has suspended 1,905 housing projects across Maharashtra for failing to respond to show-cause notices regarding updating their status on its website before the completion deadline. Pune leads with 487 suspended projects, followed by Raigad (240), Thane (204), and Mumbai suburban (111). These projects now face restrictions on property transactions, frozen bank accounts, and potential penalties of ₹50,000 each for regulatory non-compliance. The action is part of MahaRERA's enforcement drive, during which 10,773 lapsed projects were identified in December 2024. Despite reminders, developers of 1,905 projects did not respond, resulting in their registrations being suspended to protect home buyers' interests. Details of these projects have been uploaded on the MahaRERA website to caution buyers.
In addition to the suspended projects, MahaRERA has begun similar action against another 3,499 projects that failed to respond to notices. The review revealed low compliance, with only three out of 748 projects updating their information in January 2024. However, 5,324 projects, including 3,517 with occupancy certificates, responded to earlier notices. MahaRERA has instructed the property registration department to halt the registration of flats in suspended projects, reinforcing the need for transparency and financial discipline in the real estate sector.
