The Pune Metro has extended its daily operations until 11 pm, but commuters are now urging authorities to ensure feeder buses and auto-rickshaws run until midnight at major stations for better last-mile connectivity. Many passengers have faced difficulties finding transport after late-night Metro rides, especially at key hubs like Ramwadi and Civil Court stations. PMPML currently operates buses until 10.30 pm, with limited availability after 11 pm at select stations. Commuters traveling to the airport from Ramwadi have requested an extension of the last feeder bus trip to 11.30 pm to avoid overcharging by auto drivers. Both Maha Metro and PMPML have acknowledged the issue and are working on rescheduling feeder bus services in phases, starting with routes from Swargate, PCMC, and Shivajinagar stations. While Metro ridership has increased to over 1.5 lakh daily, regular users emphasize that footfall can grow further only if last-mile connectivity is improved.
To enhance connectivity, Maha Metro has partnered with TS Switch E-Ride to introduce an e-bike service at ten stations, including PCMC, Shivajinagar, Mandai, and Swargate. The service, branded ‘Switch e-Ride,’ will begin with 50 e-bikes, allowing commuters to rent them via a mobile app after completing KYC verification. These e-bikes, with a top speed of 25 kmph and a two-person capacity, will operate between Metro stations and key locations such as IT parks, educational institutions, and government offices. The proposed fares are ₹1.50 per minute, ₹55 per hour, and up to ₹450 for a 24-hour rental. However, despite these efforts, the share-a-auto initiative at Metro stations has seen limited success due to low participation from auto drivers, leaving passengers still struggling with transport options at night.
