The Maharashtra Pollution Control Board (MPCB) has issued a warning notice to Bharat Forge Limited, a multinational company, over alleged noncompliance with consent terms related to a complaint about the discharge of substandard effluent containing oil into the Mula Mutha river in Mundhwa. The notice, dated April 29, granted the company a one-week period to address the issue. Bharat Forge denied receiving any such notice, asserting its commitment to being a zero discharge facility and stating that it does not release discharge outside the factory premises.
Residents of Mundhwa had filed a complaint with the MPCB on March 19, alleging that Bharat Forge was releasing polluted water mixed with foul-smelling oil directly into the river. An MPCB team conducted an on-site survey on April 24, noting the presence of oil-containing effluent in the stormwater drain near the old effluent treatment plant. The notice requires the company to take precautionary measures to prevent any seepages or spillages and to clean the stormwater drain within a week. Any repetition of non-compliance could lead to legal action against the company, as per the notice.
