New Automated System Targets Vehicles Without Valid Pollution Certificates

16 May 2024

A new automated system is being developed to address the issue of vehicles operating without valid Pollution Under Control (PUC) certificates. The system aims to enforce traffic regulations by automatically issuing fines to offenders, including at petrol pumps, with penalties of up to ₹10,000 for vehicles found without a valid pollution certificate. Enhanced surveillance measures will be implemented, utilising advanced cameras at fuel stations to monitor vehicle registration numbers and automatically verify the pollution certificate status of each vehicle. Prompt renewal notifications will be sent to drivers, with a brief grace period provided for certificate renewal before penalties are imposed.

The automated system seeks to promote compliance with pollution regulations by ensuring effective enforcement while offering a grace period for certificate renewal. By encouraging drivers to maintain clean vehicles, it aims to foster safer roads through proactive monitoring and enforcement measures.
