Over 50 Industries Leave Chakan for Better Infrastructure in Other States

01 Oct 2024

Over 50 manufacturing units from Chakan MIDC have shifted to states like Andhra Pradesh, Gujarat, and Karnataka, citing poor infrastructure, traffic congestion, and potholes as major issues. Congress leader and MP claimed that these problems have disrupted production schedules due to delays in transporting raw materials and finished goods. Despite multiple complaints to police and MIDC officials, no significant improvements have been made, leading to companies moving out of the region.

State industries minister refuted the claims, emphasising Maharashtra's top position in exports and dismissing remarks. However, local industry leaders confirmed the exodus, citing unresolved infrastructure issues, high power tariffs, and soaring land prices. Industrialists have been pushing for solutions, including the proposed elevated road between Nashik Phata and Rajgurunagar, but progress remains stalled.
