The Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) in the twin cities achieved a significant milestone in the financial year 2023-24 by recording its highest-ever revenue from property tax. Civic officials reported a remarkable increase, with the corporation collecting Rs977 crore in property tax this fiscal year, compared to Rs810 crore in the previous year and Rs628 crore in 2021-22. Additionally, the civic body saw an increase in revenue from water tax, totaling Rs78 crore this fiscal year, up from Rs63 crore in 2022-23. The combined revenue from property and water tax marks a historic achievement for PCMC.
Moreover, the PCMC experienced a surge in revenue from building permissions, with Rs804 crore collected in the current fiscal year, compared to Rs670 crore previously. Although the highest revenue from building permissions was recorded in 2021-22 at Rs1,060 crore, the consistent growth reflects the region's development trajectory. PCMC's commissioner announced plans to streamline tax payments by integrating property and water taxes, aiming to enhance efficiency and reduce manpower requirements. This initiative signifies the municipality's commitment to facilitating smoother administrative processes for residents and further optimising revenue collection efforts.
