The Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) has approved the development of seven major roads in Wakad, Punawale, and Tathawade, aiming to reduce traffic congestion and improve over 75% of the road network in these areas. The project, aligned with the development plan (DP), will include drainage and stormwater line works, with completion expected within two years. Civic officials highlighted that over 60% of the required land is already in possession, and the remaining will be acquired soon.
These areas, which were merged into PCMC in 1997, have experienced rapid growth due to their proximity to Hinjawadi IT Park, but residents have long demanded better infrastructure. The municipal commissioner emphasised the importance of these projects for improving quality of life amidst rapid urbanisation. Additionally, PCMC is working on a five-year capital investment plan for other urbanising regions like Dudulgaon, Dighi, and Charholi. Local residents have expressed hope that the projects will be completed on time, despite concerns about delays.
