In a proactive effort to enhance road safety and inclusivity in Pimpri-Chinchwad City, engineers from the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) recently engaged in a comprehensive workshop. Collaborating with the Global Designing Cities Initiative (GDCI) as part of the Bloomberg Philanthropies Initiative for Global Road Safety (BIGRS), the PCMC organized this capacity-building event, attended by over 60 engineers from the Roads Department of PCMC. With the active involvement of senior police officials from Pimpri Chinchwad City Police, key PCMC representatives, and GDCI team members, the workshop aimed to sensitize engineers to the diverse needs of road users and introduce them to evidence-based solutions for safer, more accessible streets. PCMC's Municipal Commissioner, emphasized the importance of implementing internationally recognized urban mobility and street design principles to benefit the growing city's citizens.
The primary goal of this training was to empower PCMC engineers with the knowledge and skills necessary to execute infrastructure projects that transform streets into public spaces accessible to all, prioritizing the safety of vulnerable road users like pedestrians, cyclists, and motorcyclists. Executive Engineer for Roads, Traffic & Transportation Planning at PCMC, highlighted the significance of the workshop in their ongoing efforts to improve road safety, expressing gratitude for the collaboration with BIGRS and GDCI. This initiative underscores PCMC's commitment to creating safer streets with a specific focus on safeguarding those who are most at risk.
