The Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) has cracked down on property tax defaulters, taking action against 1,012 properties for nonpayment of dues in the current financial year. Among these, 346 properties have been sealed, while notices for confiscation have been issued to 538 owners. Additionally, water connections of 128 properties have been severed by civic officials. The PCMC aims to extend similar actions to approximately 500 more properties by March 31, 2024, urging citizens to clear their pending dues to avoid such measures.
With over 6.15 lakh registered properties under its purview, including residential, commercial, and industrial units, the PCMC has received property tax amounting to Rs 746 crore from 4.31 lakh property owners so far this financial year. However, the number of defaulters, especially in the residential category, remains significant. The PCMC is intensifying efforts to collect dues, employing strategies such as cutting water connections and confiscating properties, particularly from those who have evaded tax payments for several years despite their financial capability to settle their liabilities.
