PCMC to Take Action Against Contractors and Officials Over Poor Road Quality
The Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) is set to take action against contractors and civic officials for the poor quality of roads in the city. A senior civic officer stated that any contractors, staffers, or officers found guilty will face consequences. This decision follows an inquiry by CoEP Technological University experts, who identified several deficiencies in road construction. Initially, seven to eight roads were investigated, but the inquiry was later expanded. Disciplinary measures will be taken based on individual cases, and contractors may be required to make repairs.
Chinchwad MLA raised the issue in the state legislative assembly, prompting the Chief Minister to assure action against those responsible for the substandard roads. The CM mentioned that some tenders for road work in Pimpri Chinchwad were accepted at rates below 40%, leading to the CoEP inquiry. The civic body plans to either have the roads repaired by the contractors or recover compensation for the repairs. The enforcement of the poll code and election process had initially delayed further action.
