The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has launched a road project to connect Charholi and Wagholi, significantly reducing travel distances and time between the two locations. Currently, there are three routes available, spanning from 16.5 km to 27 km, causing inconvenience and increased costs for commuters. However, with the construction of the new road, the distance will be reduced to a mere 5.7 kilometres, ensuring smoother traffic flow and improved connectivity. The project, implemented through a public-private partnership (PPP) over three years, involves the development of eight levels and has been assigned to a contractor company. Apart from benefiting Charholi and Wagholi, the road will also enhance connectivity to nearby areas such as Alandi, Dehu, Bhosari, Nigdi, Pimpri Chinchwad, and Chakan. It will serve as a direct route for vehicles travelling to Pimpri-Chinchwad or Mumbai via Yerwada, bypassing Pune, contributing to the connectivity plans outlined in the proposed Ring Road by the Pune Metropolitan Area Development Authority (PMRDA).
The new road will address the existing challenges of traffic congestion and increased travel distances in the region. Currently, vehicles heading towards Pimpri-Chinchwad pass through Yerwada, Vishrantwadi, Khadki, and Bopodi, including heavy vehicles like trucks, buses, and containers. This leads to frequent congestion and additional fuel consumption and expenses for commuters. The new road will alleviate traffic congestion at key locations, such as Kharadi bypass chowk, Yerwada, Vishrantwadi, Khadki, Bopodi in Pune, and Dapodi, Dighi, and Bhosari in Pimpri-Chinchwad. Additionally, it will significantly reduce travel distances between Pimpri Chinchwad, Nigdi, Charholi, Alandi, and Wagholi, resulting in time and cost savings. The project includes the construction of service roads, storm drains, street lights, and traffic control lights to enhance the overall road infrastructure. These improvements will benefit multiple routes, including the Alandi-Pune Palkhi route, Pune-Nashik Highway, Mumbai-Pune Highway, and Mumbai-Bangalore Highway, offering smoother and more efficient travel experiences for commuters.
