The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has initiated a new tender valued at ₹303 crore for the development of the right bank of the Mula river, part of the Riverfront Development Project (RFD) under a public-private partnership (PPP) model. Simultaneously, the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) has also floated a tender worth ₹312 crore for the left bank development. With a total allocation of ₹700 crore for the initial phase, contracts worth ₹700 crore have already been awarded for other stretches of the river, with a credit note of ₹400 crore issued by PMC.
These developments come after a six-month hiatus following the withdrawal of an earlier tender due to funding disparities between PMC and PCMC. The project, spanning 44 kilometres, aims to spend ₹20 crore per kilometre over five years, with private contributions and government-owned land utilised for green belt development, generating revenue through land development charges.
