PMC Budget Focuses on Infrastructure Development for Existing and New Projects
The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) is taking proactive measures to tackle the housing challenges prevalent in the city, particularly concerning its transient population. By introducing rental housing projects, starting with an inaugural endeavour in Baner, PMC aims to address the accommodation needs of individuals migrating from various regions, offering affordable alternatives amidst Pune's competitive real estate landscape. Additionally, PMC is delving into affordable housing and slum rehabilitation schemes, with a focus on areas like Gultekdi, utilising its extensive land resources for community-centric development initiatives. Concurrently, the reassessment of charges associated with Gunthewari projects reflects PMC's commitment to fostering inclusive urban growth through regulatory adaptability, emphasising the importance of flexible policies in facilitating housing accessibility.
Moreover, PMC's financial outlook for the upcoming fiscal year underscores its dedication to sustainable urban development and housing provision. With a target of Rs2,492.83 crore from building permissions set for 2024-25, PMC aims to substantially augment its revenue streams compared to the previous year. Notably, the corporation has made significant progress, having already collected around Rs2,000 crore by February-end. This fiscal robustness aligns with PMC's overarching strategy of promoting affordable housing initiatives and bolstering infrastructure development in merged villages, underscoring its commitment to addressing the evolving needs of Pune's expanding population while ensuring fiscal sustainability and inclusive growth.
