The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has initiated the process of collecting property taxes from the Metro railway authority, including 18 stations, two depots, and other properties owned by the Maha Metro Rail Corporation. This move is expected to yield approximately Rs 20 crore in tax revenue for the PMC annually. The taxation is based on the annual rateable value of these properties, and PMC officials are currently in the process of assessing them before dispatching the tax bills. In the last two months, the revenue generated from tax collection has already surpassed Rs 1,300 crore, albeit with a delay of 1.5 months caused by the need to reprint tax bills due to the reintroduction of a 40% discount on self-occupied properties. Overall, around 12 lakh properties under the PMC's jurisdiction are liable to pay property taxes, with special discounts offered to those who pay their taxes before May 31 each year, and an extended deadline until August 2 was granted, with an additional two-day extension due to technical issues.
