In the fiscal year 2023–24, the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) witnessed a substantial increase in its tax base, with approximately 53,000 new properties falling under its ambit. This expansion is projected to contribute around Rs 170 crore to the PMC's revenue stream. Over the years, the PMC's jurisdiction has expanded significantly, with the addition of 4.5 lakh properties since 2017, following the merger of 34 areas into PMC limits, 11 in 2017 and 23 in 2021. To ensure comprehensive coverage, the PMC has established ward-wise teams dedicated to identifying and registering unlisted properties, reflecting the administration's proactive approach to revenue generation.
Furthermore, in an unusual turn of events, the PMC's building permissions department recorded remarkable earnings, surpassing Rs 2,400 crore during the same fiscal period. Special drives and collaborative efforts with the building permissions department have been instrumental in identifying new constructions and incorporating them into the tax ambit, underscoring the PMC's commitment to maximising revenue streams and bolstering financial stability.
