The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) is racing against a January 15 deadline to complete repairs of uneven drainage and stormwater chamber lids across various city roads. While over 1,000 lids were inspected and repairs expedited in December, commuters say many still remain in poor condition, posing risks, especially to two-wheeler riders. Areas like Ganeshkhind Road and Sinhagad Road continue to face issues, with residents calling for regular weekly checks and higher repair quality. Concerns about the durability of fixes have also been raised, with citizens criticizing PMC’s lack of quality assurance in both chamber repairs and road reinstatements.
PMC officials claim significant progress, stating that chamber lid repairs and replacements are ongoing and will be completed in the next few weeks. Levelling and replacing broken lids were prioritized, and contact details of 34 officers were provided for citizens to report road repair complaints. However, stretches affected by infrastructure projects like the Metro, pipeline installations, and flyover construction remain in poor condition, further exacerbating the challenges for commuters.
