PMC Issues Notice for Road Repairs After Citizens Complaint
Under pressure from public outcry, the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has issued a notice to a contractor to carry out road repairs under the defect liability period (DLP). The notice came after the Karvenagar Citizens Forum filed a complaint about a ₹25-lakh road project on Dnyandeep Colony Lane Number 1, which developed cracks and damage just days after its completion. Following a surprise inspection, PMC confirmed the road was still under the DLP, making the contractor, Sandeep Enterprises, responsible for repairs at their own expense.
The Karvenagar Citizens Forum criticised the PMC for not acting proactively and only issuing the notice after receiving a complaint. Civic activist Vivek Velankar emphasised the importance of citizen activism in ensuring accountability, stating that public pressure is often necessary for the administration to take action.
