The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has commenced the long-awaited water supply scheme for the Lohegaon-Wagholi areas, with a projected cost of approximately Rs 230 crore. The project, expected to be completed in two-and-a-half years, includes the laying of 430 km-long distribution and transmission lines and the construction of nine new overhead water tanks. The water will be sourced from the Bhama Askhed dam. Local MLA has urged the administration to avoid delays and emphasised the need for adequate state government funding to ensure the project progresses smoothly.
Residents of Wagholi and Lohegaon, which were incorporated into the PMC limits in 2021, have expressed frustration over the ongoing water scarcity despite previous assurances from the administration and local representatives. They are eager for the completion of this and other promised projects to improve water supply. PMC officials confirmed that groundwork, including pipeline installation and overhead tank construction, has already begun in Lohegaon and Wagholi. The initiative is part of a broader plan to enhance water infrastructure in newly merged areas, with Vadgaon Sheri MLA advocating for expedited progress on the project.
