The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) is taking precautionary measures to prevent flooding in areas around Ambil Odha by maintaining a lower water level in Katraj Lake. With sharp rain spells in August and the possibility of heavy rainfall in September, officials have started reducing the lake's water level by at least five metres to accommodate incoming rainwater. The two lakes in the Katraj area, currently full, drain excess water into Ambil Odha, affecting regions like Bibvewadi, Satara Road, Sahakarnagar, and the city's southern parts. Civic officials have installed syphon pipes and kept pumps ready to manage the lake's water levels, ensuring the situation remains under control through the end of the monsoon.
Residents along Ambil Odha, who experienced significant flooding in September 2019 due to heavy rainfall in the Katraj Ghat hills, remain concerned about potential flooding. They have urged the PMC to implement proper plans to manage water flow from Katraj Lake. A Sahakar Nagar resident expressed concerns over the lack of a warning system at Ambil Odha and the delayed distribution of funds for constructing safety walls, emphasising the need for timely preventive measures.
