PMC Pushes Katraj-Kondhwa Road Widening Amid Land Hurdles

26 Feb 2025

The long-pending Katraj-Kondhwa road widening project and the construction of a flyover at Katraj Chowk are expected to gain momentum as the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has acquired 3,968 sqm of land for ₹21 crore. These projects, which have faced delays due to land acquisition challenges, aim to ease heavy traffic congestion in the area. The road department chief stated that discussions with remaining landowners are ongoing, with hopes of securing additional land soon. PMC had initially sought ₹200 crore from the state government for land acquisition and has received ₹138 crore so far, but key bottlenecks remain at Khadi Machine Chowk, Rajas Society Chowk, and Kanha Hotel Chowk.

Commuters on the 3.5 km stretch between Katraj Chowk and Pisoli continue to struggle with severe traffic congestion due to incomplete roadwork. Many residents have expressed frustration over the slow pace of the project and the inconvenience caused by ongoing subway work at Shatrunjay Mandir Chowk, which has further narrowed the road. Local citizens demand swift action from PMC to complete the pending work and alleviate daily commuting challenges.
