PMC Receives Clearance for Shastri Nagar Flyover Project

06 May 2024

The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has received a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) for the construction of a flyover and grade separator at Shastri Nagar Chowk. This development comes as a response to the persistent traffic congestion along Ahmednagar Road between Yerwada and Wagholi. With funds worth ₹35 crore allocated in the PMC budget for such infrastructure projects, including those at key points like Shastri Nagar Road and Kharadi Bypass, the city aims to alleviate traffic woes significantly.

According to PMC officials, after presenting a proposal before the National Monuments Authority (NMA) in April and subsequently obtaining the NOC on May 3, the next steps involve preparing estimates and completing necessary procedures. The commencement of construction on the flyover and grade separator is anticipated once the Lok Sabha elections of 2024 conclude and the code of conduct is lifted, signalling progress in addressing the longstanding issue of traffic congestion in the area.
