After the conclusion of state assembly elections and the lifting of the election code of conduct, the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has resumed ₹675 crore worth of development works from its ₹11,500-crore annual budget for the current financial year. Of this budget, ₹1,850 crore is allocated for maintenance and repairs, while ₹5,093 crore is reserved for capital and development projects. The enforcement of the code during the Lok Sabha elections (April-June) and assembly elections (November 20) disrupted work as over 5,000 PMC employees were engaged in election duties. The municipal commissioner has directed all departments, including water supply, sewage, and roads, to expedite pending proposals to ensure projects are completed within the remaining four months of the financial year.
The administration aims to address disparities by prioritizing works in newly merged villages such as Khadakwasla, Wagholi, and Ambegaon, where residents have raised concerns over slow progress since their inclusion within PMC limits. These areas will take precedence over older city zones to balance development. Delays due to insufficient tender responses and re-tendering have also been addressed, with efforts to streamline processes. The PMC is focused on completing pending projects before the year-end while preparing for the challenges posed by potential municipal elections in the near future
