PMC speeds up Wagholi-Lohegaon water project aims for early completion

29 Mar 2025

The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has expedited work on the Wagholi-Lohegaon water supply project after acquiring 11 land parcels for overhead water tanks. While the project is expected to be completed by the monsoon of 2026, officials aim to finish ahead of schedule, with 30% of the work mainly the laying of distribution lines already completed. The scheme is vital for improving water supply in the rapidly growing areas along Nagar Road, where residents have been demanding a dedicated water supply system to meet rising demand due to increasing housing projects.

Despite some improvement in Lohegaon’s water supply following PMC’s use of the Bhama Askhed dam, many areas still experience irregular supply, with some receiving water only once in two days. Of the 13 planned overhead tanks, two are being constructed in forest areas, for which PMC is seeking land clearance from the forest department. Meanwhile, residents of Wagholi continue to rely on costly water tankers, expressing frustration over repeated assurances from authorities without tangible improvements. Local leaders have urged PMC to prioritize work in the most water-scarce areas to provide much-needed relief.
