The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has initiated efforts to recover outstanding property tax dues by sealing a total of 180 properties in the past two days. On Wednesday, 40 properties were sealed, and this was followed by the sealing of 140 properties on Thursday, resulting in the collection of ₹8.81 crore, according to municipal officials. The head of PMC's property tax department revealed that since April, a total of 2,004 properties with dues amounting to ₹123 crore have been sealed, and the PMC intends to intensify its actions against tax defaulters, aiming to meet this year's revenue target.
The PMC had faced challenges earlier this year due to confusion surrounding a 40 percent discount on property tax. As a result, property tax bills were distributed in mid-April, and now, the municipal body is ramping up its efforts to address defaulters and reach its revenue target of ₹2,400 crore, having already collected ₹1,500 crore in property tax revenue for the year.
