The civic body conducted an anti-encroachment drive in Shivajinagar on Thursday. Parts of food joints — Bamboo House and Fountain — were demolished in the drive, a press statement issued by the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) stated. Construction spread over 5,200 sqft was razed, the statement added.“PMC carried out action against establishments which have flouted building permissions norms. The action will continue in the days to come,” said Bipin Shinde, a senior official of the PMC’s building permission department.
The PMC officials said that actions have been taken against food joints and other establishments, which carried out const ructions on side as well as front margins. All constructions, in violation of sanctioned building plans, have been demolished.According to the officials, action was taken as part of a special initiative to reduce illegal constructions. The drives against such properties started on March 17, 2022. The civic administration is focusing on 45 key roads. Many of these constructions were carried out on hill tops and hill slopes. Some of these are under the biodiversity park areas too.As many as 250 people have been roped in for carrying out drives in PMC limits. The civic administration has demolished around 20 lakh sqft of encroachment and unauthorised constructions.
