The Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) has instructed the concessionaire of the 23km Hinjewadi-Shivaji Nagar Metro line to devise a detailed micro-plan to expedite the project, as only 68% of the work has been completed ahead of the March 2025 deadline, senior PMRDA officials said on Wednesday. This directive aims to address the delays and ensure the project stays on track. “We’ve asked for a timeline to complete the remaining work. The current pace is concerning, and the micro-plan will detail the tasks for the coming seven months,” the PMRDA official stated.
With assembly elections approaching, PMRDA is emphasising adherence to timelines to avoid further delays. “Around 88% of the total work should have been completed by now, so the ‘catch-up’ plan has to be prepared by the concessionaire,” the official added. A crucial part of the Metro line, the integrated flyover from Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU) Chowk to E-Square junction, is expected to be completed by the end of November, although the initial deadline was August 15. Unlike the other two Metro lines that opened in phases, Metro line 3 is scheduled to open to the public in April 2025 amid increasing commuter demand.
