Policemen Turn Road Repair Heroes Filling Potholes for Safer Commutes in Bavdhan

29 Jul 2023

In a remarkable display of community service, policemen from the Pimpri Chinchwad traffic police's Bavdhan division in Maharashtra, India, took it upon themselves to address the issue of potholes on an accident-prone stretch in Bavdhan. The deteriorating road conditions, caused by the monsoon rains, were hindering the smooth movement of vehicles along the Katraj-Dehu Road bypass. To rectify the problem, the policemen used shovels and a hired machine to prepare a mixture of sand and hot mix, which they poured over the potholes, effectively levelling the road and ensuring safe passage for commuters. Citizens and residents lauded the initiative, acknowledging the dangers posed by these potholes, particularly for two-wheeler riders, who often risked accidents navigating through the treacherous road surface. Moreover, the efforts of the Bavdhan division inspired other officials from divisions like Hinjewadi, Wakad, and Bhosari to follow suit, demonstrating a united effort to tackle the issue across the region. Despite the commendable work of the police, some expressed disappointment with the Pune Municipal Corporation's (PMC) road department, which seemingly overlooked the problem, highlighting the need for greater collaboration between authorities to address such concerns promptly and efficiently.

Overall, the sight of policemen wielding shovels to fill potholes on a dangerous stretch in Bavdhan serves as a shining example of proactive community involvement. Their dedication to ensuring safer roads for all road users drew admiration from the public, while also shedding light on the need for better coordination between the police and the PMC's road department to address infrastructure challenges promptly. The efforts of the Bavdhan division resonated with residents and even inspired officials from other divisions to undertake similar initiatives, emphasising the power of collective action in fostering positive change within the community.
