Power supply was restored in some areas of Pune after several hours of disruption following Thursday’s heavy rains, but consumers continued to face issues like voltage fluctuations. Hadapsar experienced intermittent power supply for a total of 24 hours over two days, with low voltage preventing the use of appliances like microwaves and refrigerators. Mahalunge Maan Hi-Tech City faced five-hour power cuts on Thursday and continued disruptions, leading to instances of people getting trapped in lifts. The absence of a substation in the area, along with blown transformers and tripping power lines, compounded the problem.
MSEDCL operationalized 1,296 out of 1,327 transformers in Pune circle and worked on restoring transformers in Sinhagad Road, Maval, and Lonavala. They stopped supply to 65 societies due to water impacting 19 transformers, of which 14 were restored. In Wakdewadi, residents experienced over 24 hours of power outage with no updates on restoration. Activist Vivek Velankar highlighted the need for pre-monsoon maintenance, comparing Pune's situation unfavourably to Mumbai, which faces minimal power cuts despite heavy rains. Residents urged authorities to move transformers from low-lying areas to prevent prolonged power cuts and to develop measures to avoid such outages in the future.
